Well, it would have been helpful if you named the show and the character in your question. This would have alerted 1000s of people to the problem.

That is the main thing to do -- alert people. Write letters to the editor, write the show's producer, the network, mention it in discussion boards to which you belong.

In other words - Get the word out.

We have a Hall of Shame where we showcase things like this. You can offer a suggestion to induct this show into our Hall of Shame.  At the top there is a link called, "Your Hall of Shame Nominations". Click on that and fill out the form. Give as many details as you can -- name of the show, which network, the name of the character and a quotation of what he said, episode title if you know it, date it was broadcast is you remember, and any other information that will be useful for us to evaluate the issue.

If enough people speak out about such thing the more people will be warned and protected from potential harm.
