Rejoicing at someones death Chas Monday, May 2, 2011

Question:

Should we celebrate, rejoice, jump up and down in glee at the death of another human being no matter how cruel that person might have been? Looking at the scenes on TV about the killing of Bin Laden where people we whooping it up, drinking, celebrating, etc., made me kind of sad in a way.

Yes, I can say that I felt a relief that a dangerous man was finally stopped, but to be extremely happy at the death of another person? I stopped and said some prayers for the soul of Osama Bin Laden that he may have repented and may God have mercy on his soul.

Your opinion please and God Bless you.

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OMSM(r)

Dear Chas:

No, we should not celebrate someone's death like that even if they are evil. Death is a sad thing especially for those who are evil as they have risked their souls to hell. We need to be praying for their souls, not jumping up an down with joy.

With that said, we can express a relief that someone like Hitler, Stalin, or Bin Laden is dead because of the great evil they caused.

Your reaction to the news was correct and Christian.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary

P.S. As a former military man and Vietnam Veteran I would have been proud to have been on the Special Forces Team that killed Bin Laden, and even to be the one to pull the tirgger on him. He needed to be killed and deserved to be killed. Nevertheless, I pray for his soul.
