three days of darkness Jane Thursday, April 14, 2011

Question:

Hi Brother Ignatius.

Recently I have been sent the following information from several different sources. It is supposed to be a prophesy from Blessed Anna Maria Taigi about "three days of darkness." I know there is a lot of stuff on the Internet that is questionable, so I was trying to find out whether this is legitimate. However, the only places that I found which reference this prophesy seem to ultra-traditionistals/schismatics, which leads me to question the accuracy of their information.

What do you make of all this? Should people prepare for this and have blessed candles on hand "just in case"?

Jane

Three Days of Darkness

"God will send two punishments: one will be in the form of revolutions, wars and other evils; it shall originate on earth.

The other will be sent from Heaven. There shall come over the whole earth an intense darkness lasting three days and three nights.

Nothing can be seen, and the air will be laden with pestilence which will claim mainly, but not only, the enemies of religion.

It will be impossible to use any man-made lighting during this darkness, except blessed candles.

He, who out of curiosity, opens his window to look out, or leaves his home, will fall dead on the spot.

During these three days, people should remain in their homes, pray the Rosary and beg God's mercy.

All the enemies of the Catholic Church, whether known or unknown, will perish over the whole earth during that universal darkness, with the exception of a few whom God will convert.

The air shall be infected by demons who will appear under all sorts of hideous forms."

Dear Jane:

This idea of the "three days of darkness" is a private revelations. As such, no Catholic must believe in it and the revelation, being a private one, has nothing to do with our Salvation.

This is true even when a Private Revelation has been determined by the Church to be genuinely supernatural.

There are several other accounts of days of darkness in the Bible. The most famous "three days of darkness" recorded in the Bible is the 9th Plague perpetrated on Egypt to convince the Pharaoh to let Israel go.

Exodus 10:21-23 states:

Then the LORD said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand toward heaven that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, a darkness to be felt." So Moses stretched out his hand toward heaven, and there was thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days; they did not see one another, nor did any rise from his place for three days; but all the people of Israel had light where they dwelt.

Thus, we know that a three day plague of darkness so thick that one cannot see is something God has done before. But, notice that Israel had light during this time.

The primary problem of this modern prophecy, in my view, is the particulars. The requirement to have blessed candles almost begs superstition. If such a requirement was needed I would think the Holy See would confirm it so that no one is caught unawares. The Vatican, to date, has issued no such affirmation. For the Vatican to leave this information to a mere private revelation in which no one is required to believe when it has such pastoral importance would be rather cruel of the Holy See. Thus, I am inclined to not worry about blessed candles, dropping dead if I look out the window and such stuff.

Bottomline: if this is to an event that bad, the Holy See will instruct is, not a private revelation that may or may not be true and that nobody is required to believe.

God warned the pharaoh "officially" and definitely, not through an unofficial "maybe is, maybe not" oracle, before the plagues came.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
