Question:

I was raised Catholic but my family moved around and I never officially had First Communion. May I take communion in a Catholic church? How do I go about being allowed to have communion? What is the process?

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OMSM(r)

Dear Kathy:

You need to contact your local parish priest and explain to him the situation. He will then instruct you are what is needed. Essentially, if you are validly baptized in the Catholic Church and can prove it (the parish of your baptism will have records), then you may receive the Eucharist after receiving the Sacrament of Confession.

If you have not been confirmed then arrangements will be made for your confirmation.

The specific details and procedures needed for you individual case can be explained and planned by your local priest. Contact a local parish and make an appointment with the priest to discuss this.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
