Yet another political question... Patrick Tuesday, September 14, 2004

Question:

I have read the responses to each of the previous questions regarding the upcoming election and the importance of voting for a pro-life candidate. My question comes from a less optimistic standpoint.

You question another poster if they can live with the blood of millions of babies on their conscience as a result of voting for a pro-choice candidate (bt the way, I hate the term "pro-choice", I am opposed to abortion and am totally "pro-choice"; you have the choice not to have sex outside a marriage open to children, you have the choice to use protection if you are unable to follow that important rule, you have the choice to put the child up for adoption, you have the choice to take the responsibility for your actions and care for the child yourself, etc...).

My question is this: I agree that the abortion issue is the issue, but do you really think the election this November will actually change the abortion laws? If Bush wins (which is pretty likely at this point) will he take the proper steps to end abortion?

It appears from the history of pro-life presidents that it is unlikely. Barring the abortion (again, I know it is the most important issue), what other issues are crucial from the Catholic perspective to consider.

(To be fair, I do not like the term pro-life either, as least when it is used by politicians who claim to be pro-life and yet support the death penalty)

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM+

Dear Patrick:

It does not matter whether or not a pro-Life politician accomplishes much in office on the abortion issue. What is important is to stand-up for Truth. Whether anyone accepts that Truth or acts upon that Truth is beside the point. We must ALWAYS stand for Truth no matter what.

Besides, one does not know that the politician will do in advance. President Bush pushed for a ban an embryo stem cell research and on partial birth abortion. Does anyone really think those things would have happened if Mr. Gore had won the election?

As for other issues, we need to evaluate candidates for public office on the basis of moral truth. How do they stand on the issue of justice for workers, on the poor, the infirmed, etc. In otherwords, how do they measure up to the moral truths taught by the Church on any subject.

The problem is that both sides of an issue may believe they are taking the moral high-ground, but their methods may differ. Some voters might think that one set of methods is immoral/ineffective/unjust and yet another set of voters may think the very same methods are perfectly moral/effective/just; or any combination thereof.

The abortion issue, however, is a black and white issue. It is a deal breaker. Support abortion and you will not get in office is the message that needs to be sent.

On another score, I will indulge myself in a purely personal comment on the upcoming election.

Even if I agreed to everything Joh LKerry said, I STILL would not vote for him. Why? Because the man is a blasphemer and sacriligious perpetrator, and perveyor of evil misrepresentation of the Church and her Faith. I have no respect for a person who claims to belong to a religious faith and then rapes that faith with lies and hypocrisies about what is and what is not taught by that Faith and how it is to be practiced.

I say to John Kerry: if you do not like Catholic Church teaching, then get out of the Church if you do not have the guts to mortify your arrogance and ego to submit to God and His Church. How dare you characterize your evil views as being okay as a Catholic! How dare you commit sacrilege and abomination against the Eucharist by partaking of our Lord so unworthily! Do you not know that St. Paul said that some are sick and some even died by partaking of the Eucharist unworthily? I will pray for your soul which is in danger of hell fire, but if I could I would spit you out of my mouth. and command you to Get thee behind me....

The same goes for Senator Harkin of Iowa, with whom I had some acquaintence back in the 1980's, and for Senator Daschle, whose hometown is 40 miles from where I currently live, and also to all those other lily-livered cowards out there calling themselves Catholic yet raping the Faith with their heresies, heterdoxies, and traitorous views and practices tickling the ears of the weak and paving the way to hell. God protect us from such political "leaders".

Now, Brother, tell us what you really think! :)

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
