Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OMSM(r)
Dear Susi: You take whatever action you feel is best. Offer your actions to God and his will. God cannot direct you into the right course if you are standing still and doing nothing. Move in a direction, take steps in a direction, based upon your prayer and your best discernment and judgment. If the decision is a mistake God will let you know and direct your course into another direction. But like a ship, God cannot move your rudder to change course if the ship is not moving through the water. Consider the choices, pray about it, see what others might think about it, and make a decision. Move into a direction that seems to be the best choice. Do not be afraid of making a mistake. If you fear a mistake you will become impotent and will not move in any direction and then God cannot direct you anywhere. God wants you to give Him your intentions. The Bible tells us to "ask and you shall receive." Abandonment means that we accept the answers to prayer, whatever they may be. Jesus offered his petition to the Father but ended the prayer with, "nevertheless, Thy will be done." That is the attitude we need -- to offer whatever our intentions are, but with the attitude and submission to God's will by "nevertheless Thy will be done." God Bless,
