Sexual sins and species

Question:

I suffer from religious scrupulosity and every time a question is answered regarding this, it never fits my circumstances.

I was exposed to perverted pornography at a young age. Because of this, I have experimented with different things. Since each occasion necessarily involves different actions, do I confess that I have committed perverted sex 3 times or do I say I have done ie. involving animals, involving bodily fluids, involving, inanimate objects? What if the inanimate object belonged to a relative?

I cannot be certain which acts require more info because it is a different kind of sin. Thank you.

Dear Jim:

Thank you for your question.

The Church teaches that we are to confess the kind and number of our grave sins. Details of our sins are not required. All the sins and situtations you list in my opinion fall under the "kind" of perverted sex acts.

Thus, your confession may go like, "Father, forgive me for I have sinned. It has been ____ since my last confession. I accuse myself of committing perverted sex acts ___ times, {list other sins in kind and number}. For these and all other sins that I do not now remember, I am truly sorry and pray for God to have mercy upon me. I firmly intend to sin no more, and I humbly beg forgiveness of God and his Church, and ask of you, father, pardon, penance, and counsel."

The priest, however, may ask for more details. If he does then you need to freely offer those details honestly regardless of embarrassment.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
