Thanks for the info on Canadian law on downloading music without paying for it. I am sure the music companies in Canada are thrilled by this court decision since almost all of their revenue comes from regular people buying their product for personal and non-profit reasons.

However, the Canadian law only applies to Canada, that is, to websites in Canada, it does not apply to websites in any other countries. Thus, to download music from a website in the United States, for example, without paying for it is still theft.

Canada is a signatory to a number of international copyright conventions. That means that Canada respects the copyright laws of other countries. Thus, Canada should cooperate with U.S. law enforcement in the investigation and extradition of Canadians stealing music from the U.S.

Regardless of the practicality of U.S. officials going after a Canadian, from a moral imperative, as Christians, we are obligated to respect the laws of any country we are in or visit (physically or virtually).

Thus, the bottomline, be sure that the website from which you are downloading music without paying for it, when you are suppose to pay for it, is a Canadian website.
