Silent prayer/Vocal Prayer | jen | Thursday, September 23, 2010 |
Question: Hello. I have a question regarding prayer. Is it permissible to pray the rosary or any other prayer mentally? By mentally I mean not being vocal. I ask this because usually I use vocal prayer for the rosary but what about when you find yourself in place where you don't want to be a distraction or annoyance to others by reciting prayers vocally like in bus, hospital, etc... or maybe even church. Please help. |

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OMSM(r)
Dear Jen: The rosary is a personal devotional prayer. As such the Church does not regulate it. One can pray it in any manner they desire, even change the wording it they wish, construct special rosaries for special issues, or anything else they desire. There are no regulations, only traditions (with a small "t") and customs. There is no problem saying the rosary silently. God Bless, Footer Notes: This forum is for general questions on the faith.
