Preminitions George Friday, September 17, 2010

Question:

Just out of curiosity my whole life, excluding the time when I was outside the church doing my "own thing" for about 11 years, growing up. I had a lot of premonitions or "dejevu"
On account, the most incredible was two years ago, on a job site. Before work I had dreamed about buying my morning soda, and reciving a nickle in the coin slot that said 1942. Less then an hour later it happened. Often times, I'll get premonitions of seeing people in a certain situation and it happens. I know some of this is coincidental. What does the church say about this? or do you have any opinion? It used to drive me crazy when I was a kid because it would happen all the time.

god bless.

Question Answered by

Dear George:

Premonitions can have only four possible sources: 1) from God; 2) from the Devil; 3) from coincidence, 4) from human reasoning

I would estimate that 99% of all premonitions, no matter how fantastic they may seem, are from coincidence. People will be surprised how events, even events that people say are impossible to be coincidence, are actually coincidence.

The devil can be a source, too. The devil, however, cannot know the future. No one but God can know the future. But, demons are extraordinarily intelligent and observant. They have been observing mankind since man was created. They have been observing you and me since we were conceived. Thus, given this ability of intelligence and observation demons can make very accurate guesses. But, they are guesses, which can be wrong.

Sometimes we have premonitions that are sourced in our subconscious that derive from human reasoning. We have a "feeling" that something will happen because we know of events or circumstances that may lead up to that event. When this is done consciously we call it "making a prediction." When we do it subconsciously we call it "premonition", "gut feeling", or "intuition." All this is based on reason, logical deduction from the facts at hand, and is not actually knowing the future. Of course, these premonitions, or gut feelings, can be wrong.

God can and does know the future. Sometimes, on rare occasion He shares that information with His children. None of what you mentioned is the the kind of thing that God does. He does not play games. If he gives someone knowledge of the future it is for serious reason.

Actually, everything you mentioned is easily explained by coincidence, even the coin from the pop machine.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
