Question:

hello brother,

Hope all is well, My niece asked my grandmother a question about why there is an alter where the priests stands. It's kind of hard for her to explain to a 7 year old. She was wondering if you would know any site or books to buy to help explain it to her. Like a child book.

thank you

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OMSM(r)

Dear Suzanne:

There is no need for a book really. The altar is where the sacrifice of the Mass takes place. The priest has to have some sort of "table" to put the elements of the Eucharist upon.

This is liken to a kitchen counter. I am sure the child's mother, or grandmother, doesn't fix supper on the floor. I think that analogy she will understand.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
