My apology to you | Steve | Sunday, August 22, 2010 |
Question: Listen Bro. Ignatius, a long time ago we had an online disagreement of sorts, you surely don't remember but I do and it weighs on my soul. I want to apologize for my part in it and wish you all the best and God's blessing as you go forward. |

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM
Dear Steve: I appreciate your apology and certainly accept it. I, of course, have no idea what you are talking about I personally do not hold grudges and many people have come back to me with apologies about some altercation, and even when they mention details, I rarely remember. I guess that is a blessing as it makes it easier -- how can I be mad at someone or some incident that I can't remember There are times when I go to far in an altercation myself. For those times, and that includes if this happened in the case with you, I apologize. I also covet your prayers as what I do on this website has effects that global. One a different level: Altercations are one thing, we all fall into them, but there is another class of person who outright hates. I get hate mail all the time. These haters commit crimes of slander and libel, rash judgment, defamation, and malicious detraction. All sorts of accusations are made, usually without a single shred of evidence. For any thing I have actually done, I have and will continue to admit to it. But, obviously when people lie or exaggerate, that cannot be accepted. Based upon the advice of St. Francis de Sales, one of my mentors, and in respect to the virtue of truth, we respond to the allegations and accusations of some of the haters in our Detractor Malefactor Chronicle blog. We respond admitting to what is true, correcting what is exaggerated, and denying (by countering with the truth of the issue) to what is a lie or a rash judgment. But, those people who are are haters and outright malicious are a severe minority. The vast majority appreciate the work we do. What is interesting is that almost all of the hate mail, libel, and other maliciousness comes not from anti-Catholics, but from fellow Catholics. We live in a time when the worldly mind is pandemic even among the Faithful. St. Francis de Sales has a lot to say about the worldly mind. It is just so sad that the worldly mind is not limited with non-believer in the world, but also with those who should be striving to live according to the mind of Christ.
