Am I allowed to pray for him? Cecilia Saturday, July 10, 2010

Question:

Hello Brother!

I have a Mormon friend who is on his two year mission. He is asking for prayers but I just wondering if it is morally acceptable for me to pray for his mission while he is gone since it is spreading a faith that is not Christian. For instance, am I allowed to ask St. Therese of Lisieux, the patroness of missionaries, to pray for him? Or does this compromise my beliefs as a Catholic? I have been reserving my prayers to just prayers for his well-being just in case.

Thank you again for your help and God bless!

Cecilia

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM

Dear Cecilia:

His mission is one of evil, though he does not realize it. We are not to pray for evil and thus we are not to pray for his "mission." Rather, pray for him personally -- that he will be enlightened by the truth and convert. Pray for the people that he talks to that they will not be hoodwinked by the evil of Mormonism.

So, you need to pray against his mission, and for him.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
