Confession of past sins? Jon Thursday, September 9, 2004

Question:

If I have committed sin "A" 5 years, during a time when I wasn't receiving confession regularly, and then, once I'd been going to confession regularly committed sin "A" again and confessed it... do I need to confess it twice?

To further clarify: I commit a sin in the past... later, I commit the same sin and confess it with that recent sin in mind. But because the sins are more or less the same thing... Do I need to, now that I remember, confess the past sin? Basically... I said in the confessional "I did X" with event A in mind... but I also did X during event B. Event B has never been confessed (it would have been numerous times if I'd remembered tho)... SOOO do I need to confess it?

Thanks ;)

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM+

Dear Jon:

When the priest gives absolution all sins are forgiven, even those which are forgotten. But, if a mortal sin of the past comes to memory, then bring that to confession.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius mary
