What is the Catholic World View on obamacare? Jose Wednesday, March 31, 2010

Question:

I recently had a long argument with my sister about the new healthcare law. She's got me thinking that it isn't so bad, however, I don't feel right about changing my mind on something so contravercial and important. You're quite knowledgeable on this new law and, most certainly, what the Church says about it. So, I turn to your wisdom on this. How should I, as a serious Catholic, feel about it? Should I remain completely against it, and why? I know you are very much against it, as I have been, but I need to have a clear understanding of this.

I know you are a busy man, so if it takes you some time to respond, I'm happy to wait.

Thank you,

Jose

P.S. I haven't changed my mind about Obama. I don't like him and I want him out of the White House ASAP (without Joe Biden or any other liberal taking his place).

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM

Dear Jose:

There are so many problems with the Health Care law that time does not permit to list them all.

As I wrote on the website the day the health bill was passed:

Moments ago, the House voted in favor of Obamacare 219-212. President Lincoln said that a "government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth."  We have just seen it perish. Citizens, if this prevails, we are in a new era of our Nation. Obama and crowd are transforming our country into progressive socialism in direct violence against the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution, two documents progressives do not like as evidence by the very words of progressives such as Woodrow Wilson. The American people have overwhelming denounced this health bill. Those who are allegedly "representatives" of the people have betrayed the people, the Declaration, and the Constitution. This Congress and White House accomplished this through the greatest corruption that we have seen at least since President Grant and maybe in U.S. history. It is time for a revolution in the ballot box. As Texans "remember the Alamo" we need now to "Remember the Betrayal" in November.

This is truly a Coup D'etat against the American People.

The primary concern for the Church, however, is the issue of Life. The Health Law does not protect the life of the unborn, and potentially not the life of the elderly either. The issues of the "conscience protection" is also a concern.

The potential for this Health Law, which, according to Speaker Pelosi, is far from finished. The potential, as health care is rationed, which it will be, is to promote "assisted suicide", euthanasia, and denial of care for those who do not come out positive on a cost/benefit ratio as there will not be enough money to treat everyone.

Obamacare destroys human dignity not only in terms of the health care itself, but on its socialist base to make all of us dependent on the government. That is the real issue. Obamacare is a power-grab and has little to do with actual health care.

Anyway, for some comments from Bishops:

Legal Analysis in relation to abortion funding and conscience protection from the USCCB Office of the General Counsel.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
