political question II Doug Tuesday, September 7, 2004

Question:

What about this:
Anti-abortion Catholics can support pro-choice candidates, as long as they agree with the candidate on a range of other issues.

That pronouncement in an Italian magazine from Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, the Vatican's top spokesman on Catholic teachings, went unnoticed in the din of presidential election-year politics.

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM

Dear Doug:

I am not familiar with the alleged comment from the Cardinal. I would need to see this, no offense, because the Internet often quotes things that do not exist.

In any event, let me ask a question. Can we vote for someone like Hitler as long as we agree with other issues besides his view on Jews?

The most fundamental right among all rights, that takes priority over all other rights and over all other issues, is the Right to Life.

Without Life no other rights are possible.

How can we vote for a person who has no regard for Life and who supports murder of children? Are we to ignore the support of murdering children because the candidate has a great policy on foreign relations or the economy? Are we to trade a good and productive economy that a candidate promises on the corpses of dead babies?

Our country already has more than 47 million dead babies on its collective conscience since 1973. Are you willing to burden your conscience with these deaths by voting for a person who will support the continuation of this mass murder?
