Risen Again? Bob Monday, September 6, 2004

Question:

In the Profession of Faith it says that Christ "rose again in accordordance with the scriptures." Was the first time Christ rose when He was baptized? If not, there should be a comma after "rose" making it sound like it was scripture that dictated/predicted the rising.

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM+

Dear Bob:

The phrase "rose again" is a language convention that is a little confusing in English. It means that Jesus "rose again to life". He was dead, and then He came to life again (rose again).

The reference to Scripture was that the fact the Jesus was to come to life again (rise again) was prophesied in the Old Testament.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
