Question: Hello all and good evening or day, what ever the case maybe. I am from Florida and my Parrish is in the Orlando diocese. After a local trip with some friends to their latter day saints church, I was impressed by the organization. You see, my friends took me to their young adult services. Which is set up in there district of churches. My question and what is really bothering me, is. Why does the Catholic church, not have a central Parrish located in the diocese, that gives mass for young adults, or bible study. Am I just misinformed? or am I asking a legit question. Also would it be worth my time and effort to try to work with the Bishop or Parrish priest to organize something of this nature? Thanks for the incite, and God bless. |

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM
Dear James: There are many programs in various denominations that offer a lot of resources for youth. We need to remember that the central purpose of these youth groups is evangelization. The programs and fun activities are offered within that context. Thus, for Catholic youth to go to non-Catholic youth group places their faith at risk. In the case of the Latter Day Saints (Mormons) the problem is even more dangerous as the Mormons are not Christians. Their theology is quite weird and inconsistent with Christianity. One quick example, the Mormons think that Jesus and Satan are brothers. Under no circumstances should our Catholic youth attend Mormon youth groups. Many Catholic parishes have programs for youth. There are usually youth programs sponsored by the Diocese. I would suggest you call the diocese and ask what programs are available for Catholic youth. Just this evening after Mass, the parish I am in had a teenager announce a major youth ralley for the whole southeastern region of the state. They are expecting more than 1000 youth. The bishop will be offering Mass for these kids. If there is a need to start a program at your parish, then you might talk to your pastor about starting a program. If programs are already in existence, then perhaps you can volunteer or otherwise participate. Check with your pastor and with the diocese. God Bless,
