Re:- How many times for confession. | Steven | Thursday, September 2, 2004 |
Question: I have just read Kristopher's question concerning the repeated need to confess the same sin, and would like to add a couple of thoughts from the preaching of two excellent priests from parishes nearby my own. The first is a reflection on the Way of the Cross in the context of repeated sin - remember that the Stations of the Cross tell of Our Lord falling three times under the weight of the cross: each time he gets up again, takes up the same cross and carries on towards the same destiny. When we fall (into sin) because of our human weakness, we should get up again (through contrition and the Sacrament of Penance) and resume our journey, never giving up because of setbacks. The second thought is the hope that the Sacrament of Penance brings - even if our confessions always sound the same, we shouldn't stop saying sorry, ask for healing and help, and look forward to the day when we don't have to confess that sin any more. Please pray for England and in particular the Archdiocese of Southwark. Despite the occasional bad priest who hits the press, let us thank God for the many saintly clergy who so often go unremarked, and whom we are so fortunate to have. Pax Christi, Steven. |

Dear Steven: Thanks for those excellent thoughts. We will certainly be in prayer for England and the Archdiocese of Southwark. England in general has been in my prayers for some time due to the enormous influence of the occult in that country. You make an excellent point too about thanking God for the majority of priests who are good and holy men. In fact, once we get our Bulletin Board Discussion Group going (hopefully by the end of the month) I will be including a forum especially designed for praising God and thanking the many good priests, deacons, and religious.
