Sex with former wife len Thursday, September 2, 2004

Question:

Thank you for your response. However, I'm curious about something. I assumed you would say what you said, but why didn't you say that since we had been married in the Lutheran Church that we were not technically married in the first place so that whether I was divorced from her or not, sex with her was (always) wrong?

Ultimately, is it true that any sex between any two people who were not married in the Catholic Church is considered a sin? And, if so, I was living in sin while married. Would I be living in anymore sin if I had sex with the same woman after the civil divorce?

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM+

Dear Len:

I didn't say that because it is not true. Any marriage between two validly baptized persons regardless of denominational affiliation is considered a valid and Sacramental marriage.

The requirement to be married in the Catholic Church applies ONLY to Catholics. Non-Catholics are not bound by that rule.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
