demonic influnce in the fall of the 'very elect' Maria Sunday, March 1, 2009

Question:

Dear Bro. Ignatius,

This is in reference to the sad reports about the allegations in the case of Fr.Maciel of the Legionnaires .

What has come to mind is how our Lord can use this may be to get the Legionnares to be in the exorcism ministry ( true -all of priesthood - even lay prietshood has a good bit of exorcism role as it is as your site so well depicts ; yet - )

is it not possible that he was a victim of some sort of satanic influence - if not worse ( and I do hear your caution -to not 'diagnose 'these sitautions as satanic - yet since sin entered the world through satan , can we not give it atleast a good bit of the dusty burden of sin !)

There is a sentence in the Diary of Divine Mercy that says how a sinner can draw down more graces through repentance after a fall than before - now, true no one can afford to sin with the arrognace of presumption that God would bring forth forgiveness - that would be like satan telling our Lord to jump from the heights ! ; yet , instead of focusing on the fall, would it not be good to keep the hope in our Lord as to how He could use even this - to bring out much good !
Thank you !

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM

Dear Maria:

It is a very sad thing about Father Maceil. This shows us how any of us are vulnerable to sin.

It is true that God can bring goodness out of evil (Rom 8:28), but that does not mean that God is calling the Legionnaires to be involved in deliverance ministry. Whether or not any person or any organization is called to deliverance ministry is a wholly different issue and must be considered and discerned carefully. The mere fact of a person's fall does not qualify them to be an exorcist or deliverance minister. As for a Church approved exorcist, the bishop appoints only those priests who are mature, wise, and of high moral integrity.

Bottomline is that a calling to deliverance is something that must be cautiously discerned.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
