DOGMA AND DOCTRINE BILL Wednesday, February 18, 2009

Question:

What is Dogma and What is doctrine ? Thank You and may God bless

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM

Dear Bill:

Catholic Doctrine:

That which is taught. It is the whole of official teaching of the Church, that which is generally held to be true and is acted upon.

Catholic Dogma:

Is that portion of doctrine which has been directly proposed or formally defined for our belief as formally revealed by God as an article of divine revelation. This happens when the Pope makes an infallible declaration, or when an Ecumenical Council makes such a declaration with the ratification of the Pope.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
