Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM+
Dear Doug: The Catholic Church is not affiliated with the Republican Party or with any political party or economic system or whatnot. The Catholic Church proposes to the world principles of morality and ethics revealed to us by God. That is the standard applied. As for American politics, any candidate who supports abortion, REGARDLESS of whether they are Republican, Democrat, Socialist, or Martian is a candidate supporting the murder of children. No Christian, Catholic or otherwise, as any business voting for a person who supports the murder of children. You cannot be a good Catholic an vote for a candidate who supports abortion (regardless of party affiliation). Those who do will stand before God on Judgment Day to account for their complicity.
