Question:

Dear Brother:

May God bless you for all your good work. I was wondering if you had heard of a healer named Alan Ames from Australia. He is coming to a church near my home for a Mass, talk, and healing service. I was thinking of going, as I suffer from severe anxiety. I figure it must be OK if the event is being sponsored by a Catholic church, but I don't know for certain what to think about "faith healers." If you have any thoughts on the matter, I would greatly appreciate it. God bless.

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM

Dear Liz:

Apparently Alan Ames has permission from his Archbishop to conduct a healing ministry so I guess he is okay as far as I know.

He claims to exercise ALL of the charism gifts of the Holy Spirit, which I sincerely doubt. I do not know anything more about him. And I wonder what he means by "word of knowledge". Most people seem to define that gift the way that Pentecostals define it.

Since he has permission of his bishop, and to give a talk in a local parish usually requires permission of the local bishop there should not be a problem attending his meeting.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
