Eating of Fish on Fridays Charlie H Monday, January 26, 2009

Question:

Dear Bro Ignatius,

Thank you for your Forum. I have often been troubled by Leviticus 11 vs 10 and 11.

Does this mean Catholics are not allowed to eat fish like prawns, lobster and octopi etc on Fridays?

There are other restrictions placed on meat that can be consumed. What is the church teaching here as well?

Thank you.

Question Answered by

Dear Charlie:

All of the dietary regulations of the Old Testament have been done away with. There are no restrictions on what we can eat. All food is good to eat.

This change took place when God gave St. Peter a vision to make this point (Act 10:9-15). God told Peter not to reject that which He has made clean. From this point on all food was good to eat. All Old Testament dietary laws were gone.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
