Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM
Dear James: We are not exempt from any fast or abstinence except as provided by Church law. For example: If a Feast Day designated by the Church or the Diocese falls on a Friday, then the abstinence requirement is suspended because it is a day for celebrating the Feast. The local bishop can suspend the requirement for certain other occasions. But, our obligation does not cease for a wedding, birthday, anniversary, Christmas party or other non-Church celebrations.
