Children Communion Age 5 | Jeff | Tuesday, January 6, 2009 |
Question: Well to make a long story short, I was raised Catholic and my wife was/is raised strict Baptist with strict Baptist parents. My wife and I have been attending a Disciples of Christ Church for about 6 years now. I enjoy it very much. She is ok, but would rather be at a Baptish Church. She would rather die than go to a Catholic Church I am sorry to say. Anyways, Our twin boys are 5 yrs old and they are now asking about communion that happens every Sunday at our church. What is the best teaching I can do to make sure they understand what communion means and to only take it with a open heart. Also She wants our kids to join AWANA's? what is this? |

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM
Dear Jeff: Well, you need to follow the guidelines of your denomination. Disciples of Christ do have classes for children to teach the faith and the meaning of communion as the Disciples believe it. I believe, however, that class is for pre-teens. I grew up in the Disciples of Christ, but that was in the dinosaur era and I can't remember that far back. I would check with your pastor for advice on this and to see if there are any denominational materials or books that can help in explaining this to your children.
