Question:

hey brother,

I have a serious question to ask you. Me and husband and some of my family get feelings that evil things are around. Its gotten worse. I am greatful to have it because i see it as a gift from god even though it might freak me out sometimes. But i want to know is that is it a gift from god, is there another that the church knows of that can explain why people feel these thigns? Is it a gift from god. I made alot of mistakes in my life and i'm pregnant outside of marriage. Befor i really knew i was, i was getting hitting with a message to watch these things around my baby.It was bad. There must be a reason right?

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM

Dear Suzanne:

Fear not. All devout Christians will have these feelings to one degree or another. The evil person or situation around you can perceive the Holy Spirit within you. This can cause you have a "gut feeling" that something is wrong.

Some people have the charism gift of the Discernment of Spirits in which the normal discernment that all Christians should have is elevated to a supernatural level. This is a special gift that only some people have.

All Christians, however, should have some ability for ordinary discernment of evil things or people around them.

A third group are people are "sensitives". These people may not have the gift of discernment but are extra-sensitive to the presence of evil around them.

If you are unsure these feelings are from God then pray to God to take this ability away if it is not from Him.

Clues that it is not from God is that it causes you move away from God in some manner, leads you into judgmentalism or some other disordered behavior, causes you fear and discomfort.

If from God you should feel joy and no fear.

Now, at this moment you may be feeling discomfort or fear because you did not understand what was happening. Now that it has been explained to you, any fear or discomfort should go away and you can embrace this gift as from God and use it for His glory and your own protection.

God, however, does not force gifts upon us. If you do not want this gift you do not have to accept it. In that case ask God to take it away. If the gift was from God, then it will go away.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
