Question:

Hello Bro. Ignatius, it's Tim again; I asked a question about the Catholic faith and its confusing traditions recently. Anyway, I'm here for some comfort now: Is it possible to separate my political and religious beliefs? For example, I am pro-choice, pro-gay marriage, pro-medical marijuana and pro-stem cell research. I support these decisions because I do not believe in the restrictions of peoples decisions. However, I am a Christian who believes God's word; I do believe homosexuality is wrong...but I support them because some do not have my beliefs and because I believe it is wrong to shun those people because they feel happy with what they want. Can't I live happily with my faith while a gay couple can live happily with their lives? Can't I have my absolute faith in God separated from my political beliefs that may contradict Him? I do believe in everything God has said and I am happy; can't I make someone else happy too by supporting their ways, even though they are not agreeable with my faith? All of this brings me to my next point: theocracy. Can I believe in the separation of church and state and still have complete faith in God? I believe theocracies cause trouble; they pressure the inhabitants to try to accept a belief that they may not grasp. Do you get my questions?

Tim

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM

Dear Tim:

You have done something that few people have been able to do -- make my jaw drop to the ground. Surprised

You are not going to like my response and it will likely offend you, but truth has to be boldly proclaimed here to knock you to your senses.

First let us examine the philosophical proposition you declare: "I support these decisions because I do not believe in the restrictions of peoples decisions."

I do not think you have any idea of the ramifications and consequences of this philosophical position. At least I hope you do not understand, because if you do that would make you a monster.

If we are to support someone's decision because we believe there should be no restrictions of people's decision then that means we must support Hitler's decision to murder twelve million people, and Stalin's decision to murder twenty million people, and Charlie Mason's decision to murder the people he ordered his follower to murder, slave trader's decision to buy and sell human beings, etc.

We must also support the decision of the theft to steal your car, rape your wife, burn down your house. We will need to empty all prisons and disband the police because we must support everyone's decisions and not make any restrictions.

This, of course, is nonsense, but that is the philosophical proposition you asserted.

Now, you may say, "But those examples hurt people." If you say that then you do believe in a restriction -- to do what you want, but do not hurt people. That idea is one of the ten commandments of Satanism: "That thou hurt none, do what thy wilt, that is the whole of the law." Be self-indulgent as long as you hurt no one. Well, that is not possible in the first place.

I will get back to that in a minute. Now, let us look at the decisions you say you support: 1) pro-choice (which means abortion)
2) homosexual marriage
3) pro-medical marijuana
4) pro-stem cell research

1) Abortion kills people -- babies. In fact, through abortion more people have been killed since 1970 than from all the wars in the history of man put together. There have been nearly TWO BILLION babies murdered in abortion since 1970.

2) Homosexual marriage rapes the virtue of marriage which is instituted by God for procreation and bonding of husband and wife. It is a support and justification of something that is a violation of natural law and God's law. To justify and support that which is against God is to bring harm to the society and to the individual. Adopted children into this evil and disordered "marriage" suffer serious harm to be raised in such an environment.

3) Medical marijuana is no problem as long as it is legal. This is a decision for physicians, the FDA, and the law.

4) embryonic stem cell research kills babies. I might add the in vitro fertilization also kills babies -- about 5-20 babies die in order to get one successful pregnancy.

So, the bottomline is that you support the murder of babies and the defilement of marriage. And you call yourself Christian?

Now back to the Satanic verse that you support by your philosophical proposition. Aleister Crowley, the father of modern Satanism, explains and interprets the verse, "That thou hurt none, do what thy wilt, that is the whole of the law." Crowley's essay is entitled:

The RIGHTS OF MAN:
DO WHAT THOU WILT SHALL BE
THE WHOLE OF THE LAW
There is no god by Man.

Crowley's subtitle to his "Rights of Man" commentary on canon 60, Chapter 3 of the "Book of the Law" tells it all. There is no god but Man. Man makes up his own rules, chooses his own way, decides his own morality, determines his own fate.

The only sin is the sin of mortification (the opposite of self-indulgence) -- to mortify that which our natural selves desires.

The Catholic Church thus represents a mortal enemy of these "Rights of Man" since the one of the highest and most sacred spiritualities taught by Jesus and the Church is mortification -- "Ye must give up your life, to save it"

The Christian message is blasphemy to those in Thelema (Thelema representing all philosophies and systems of thought progenitored by the ideas of the Book of the Law, whether pagan, occultic, satanic, New Age, Feminists in flavor).

Here is the litany of the Rights of Man that are derived from Canon 60, Chapter 3, of Crowley’s "Book of the Law". Notice how these "rights" parallel the notion of not restricting others' decisions. But notice the last line.

<----------->
Man has a right to live by his own Law.
Man has a right to live in the way that he will to do.
Man has a right to dress as he will to do.
Man has a right to dwell where he will to dwell.
Man has a right to move as he will on the face of the earth.
Man has a right to eat what he will.
Man has a right to drink what he will.
Man has a right to think as he will.
Man has a right to speak as he will.
Man has a right to write as he will.
Man has a right to mold as he will.
Man has a right to paint as he will.
Man has a right to carve as he will.
Man has a right to work as he will.
Man has a right to rest as he will.
Man has a right to love as he will, when, where, and whom he will.
Man has a right to die when and how he will.
Man has a right to kill those who would thwart these rights.
<----------->

Tim, Satan has seduced you into hellish thinking. You need to repent of this evil notion.

As to bringing our Faith into the public arena, we most certainly are obligated to do that. We are to bring our faith into the political form and lobby for those issues that are moral and against those issues that are not. A society not constrained by moral values will fall. That is one reason why Rome fell. A society not constrained by moral value will hurt its citizens. Moral values are not merely for the individual but are to be lived out in our communities and nations. There is NO question about this. The God tells us all through the Bible of our responsibility to the community.

We are not to just congregate in our "holy huddles", we are to shine our light to all the world. Jesus said, "You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden;  nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven" (Matt 5:14-16).

It was Irving Kristol, or maybe Edmund Burke, who wisely said, "The only thing necessary for evil to triumph, is for good men to do nothing."

The fight for Social Justice belongs to Christians who, by the power of the Holy Spirit, seek to imbue our human society with the Truth of God that all human beings may live in dignity in accord with God's divine law.

There is no such thing as the separation of Church and State. It does not exist in the Constitution. The Constitution is saying that the government is not to establish a state religion like England did. This does not mean that religious values are barred from the political arena. If that were so, we would not have a United States since this country was founded upon religious values.

It is moral cowardice to say "I do not believe in abortion, but I think others should have a choice." or "I do not believe in slavery, but I think that others should have a choice." or "I do not believe in murder, but I think others should have a choice."

Pro-Choice is pro-Evil.

God has given us the moral standards by which we are to live, by which make the human person and his society healthy. We we stray from that standard the person and the society falls. Sodom and Gomorrah were judged as a city. God judged nations and destroyed them. God even judged the whole world society when he caused the Flood. It is not only the individual who must adhere to God's standards, but whole communities and nations. It is individuals who compose those communities and nations and this it is those citizens who must bring their faith to the public forum.

No, you cannot "have my absolute faith in God separated from my political beliefs that may contradict Him?" Political beliefs are an expression of personal belief brought to the public forum. If we will not stand for Christ in the public forum, then we make a mockery of what Christ did for us. Christ stood for us in the public forum. He died for us in a public execution. How can we do less?

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
