RCIA but living in sin Chas Friday, January 2, 2009

Question:

A young lady wants to join the CC and is currently going through RCIA. She has had a very sexually active life in the past and is currently living with her boyfriend. She is thinking of getting married "when the time is right". Can a who is living in sin and wants to continue int that state be admitted into the Church?

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM

Dear Chas:

If she is not willing to stop living in concubinage then she is not ready to be Catholic. If I were her sponsor I would not recommend her to the Church. In fact, her sponsor has a duty before God and the Church to not recommend her if she is not willing to stop her sin.

If she were confirmed, how can she receive the Eucharist, even at her confirmation? She will be confessing, of course, but confession is not valid if she has no intentions of stopping her sin.

This person needs to not be allowed to enter the Church if she has no intention of stopping her sin. She can fool the Church, but she cannot fool God. If she cannot be convinced to withdraw, then the pastor should be informed.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
