Simeon speaking to Mary | Beth | Tuesday, December 30, 2008 |
Question: When Jesus is presented in the Temple the Gospel according to Luke tells us that Simeon spoke to Mary directly. Was it unheard of that a man such as Simeon would speak directly to a woman according to the customs of that time? |

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM
Dear Beth: I think there was a custom about not approaching an unmarried woman. In this case, Mary's husband was standing by her side and this was a prophetic utterance, which makes this a special situation. Nevertheless, the Bible records several instances of Jesus talking to woman, such as the woman at the well. God Bless, Footer Notes: This forum is for general questions on the faith.
