Question: What exactly is the rule in the United States for eating meat on Fridays outside of Lent? Do you abstain from meat on all fridays? |

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM
Dear Joe: Universal law requires abstinence of meat on all Fridays of the year unless a Friday falls on a Feast Day. For the United States the Holy See has approved a modification in which abstinence of meat must be followed on all Fridays of Lent. On the rest of the Fridays of the year we have a choice to either abstain from meat, or do come other act of penance such as extra prayers, giving alms, or doing some good work. Thus, we must do "something" on every Friday of the year unless the Friday falls on a Feast Day. God Bless, Footer Notes: This forum is for general questions on the faith.
