Question:

Hello Bro Ignatius,

I have a friend who attends pentecostal church and strongly believe interracial marriage is not Biblical. I ve tried my best in convincing him that his believe is wrong by pointing out few examples i know from the bible like telling him everyone is created in God's image, that the bible forbids favouritsm and that it is faith in christ that matters most in marriage and not skin colour but he wouldnt yield instead he s spreading his believe among others who are also yielding to him.

I see this as a sin and will like to stop him from polluting the minds of others.could you please give me some biblical examples/passages i can quote for him.

He even went to the extent of quoting the bible wrongly to support his mad believe(Genesis 50:25 God will surely visit you and you shall take up my bones from here)he referred to this verse as God doesnt want the two to have anything in common and that is why the bones of joseph was carried out of egypt!!

Please help me to help him so i can save others too.
Thank you Bro

Dear Anthony:

There is no Biblical principle, law of God, or law of the Church that forbids interracial marriage. A person has the basic human right to marry whom they choose as long as there is no impediment to the marriage (such as fraud, already marriage, underage, etc.) and the persons understand the nature of marriage, and freely consent to it.

Any thoughts of differing value of persons was destroyed when St. Paul said:

Gal 3:26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.

Gal 3:27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

Gal 3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

As for Genesis 50:25 Joseph is saying that God will keep his promises to bring Israel to the Promised Land. He asked his children to give an oath that they would take his bones from Egypt and take them home to the Promised Land.

This is a passage about a man in a foreign land who wants his bone to be moved home.

One would have to be seriously delusional to interpret this verse as having anything to do with racial separation.

This fella needs to study a little about Moses. Moses married a Midianite woman (a black woman) in Exodus 2:15-21. God did not chastise Moses for this, but God did chastise Miriam and Aaron for criticizing Moses for his choice of wife (Numbers 12:1-9).

For those who are deluded in thinking that Moses' wife was not black, her skin color is proved by a comparative analysis of scripture which indicates that Zipporah, Moses' wife, and her father, Jethro, were black. Zipporah was identified as an Cushite woman in Numbers 12:1. Cushite is Hebrew for "from Ethiopia"; a term generally used to refer to dark skinned persons usually of African descent. The word is very similar in its usage to the English word Negro.

That Cushite and Midianite is the same is seen in Habakkuk 3:7 that shows Cushan was an archaic term for the Midianites.

Zipporah was accepted by God, without regard for her race, because her religion was correct. Her father, Jethro, worshiped the true God (Exodus 18:10-27).

Thus, the marriage of Moses and the black woman, Zipporah, was accepted by God because they both believe in the true God.

The Bible never prohibits interracial marriage, but it does discourage inter-faith marriages.

But, Anthony, you are dealing with a bigot. It is unlikely that anything you say will change his mind. No one with two brain cells in their head will agree with this man. Those that do are already inclined to be racial bigots and like him, are only looking for something to justify their sin.

Preach the Gospel. The Holy Spirit will enlighten those hearts who will hear. As Jesus said, "He who has ears, let him hear" (Mt. 13:9).

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
