return wages you haven't earned | Elissa | Tuesday, September 16, 2008 |
Question: I've been having a discussion with a friend, and am wondering if you know of a verse in the Bible that says something to the effect of, if you've been paid to do a certain job, but haven't done the job, you should return the wages you've been paid. I've looked in my Concordance and on an online Concordance, but can't find the verse. Thank you and Godbless! :) |

Dear Elissa: I do not recall any verse at the moment that specifically says that. But, we do not need a specific Scripture verse to inform us. We know from Scripture and the Church the principles of justice, sin, repentance, and reparation. Taking money with the promise of completing a task and then not doing the promised task would be stealing or perhaps fraud depending on the situation. From that alone we know that the money should be given back. God Bless,
