Re: conditions for absolution in case of theft Mahina Monday, September 15, 2008

Question:

If the person has never been baptized into any faith, must he (she) give confession of a sin of that nature to the priest prior to baptism, in order to join the Church? Does baptism not take away all sins (which would then mean the person wouldn't need absolution of the any sins prior to joining the Church), correct or not?

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM

Dear Mahina:

You are correct. An person who has never received valid Christian baptism will receive the Sacrament of Baptism when they come into the Catholic Church, which will remove the stain of original sin and also any personal sins committed before baptism. Thus, the Sacrament of Confession is not needed. The prerequisite for participation in any of the other Sacraments is baptism.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
