Question: If a person is concerned about limiting elective abortions they should realize that, on average, every sexually active woman will experience more than one spontaneous abortion in her lifetime. That is, her body will reject a developing zygote because either she does not have the physiological capacity or resources to deal with the developing embyro or there is some defect in the embryo that causes it to die and be rejected. This has never been illegal. Why not expand our tacit approval of these "subconscious" decisions to abort to include conscious, logical ones as well. People see themselves as something exalted and above nature when they are certainly not. That is, these triage decisions are made for us by our bodies, so why not by our minds as well? Sorry if this comes off like "a modest proposal", but these are the facts. Not every sperm and egg can combine to become a human being - not enough space in the known universe for that (look up the number of gametes produced in a lifetime by individuals of our species). I would like to see abortions be legal, safe and rare, but realistically the best way to insure rarity is through application of effective birth control methods. This involves educating young women and men on the use of contraceptives, and your lack of understanding about this is unbelievable.

Spontaneous abortions are an act of nature; procured abortions are a deliberate and pre-meditated act of murder upon an innocent child. This argument is put forward only by the profoundly immature and rather unintelligent. Natural spontaneous abortions are not caused "subconsciously". One cannot "think" their body into an abortion. As for our place in nature human beings are of a higher dignity that all other life on the planet. This is because we are made in the image of God. The image of God is that we have a rational soul. Animals have only a vegetative soul and sensitive soul, and plants only have a vegetative soul. Only human beings have a rational soul that gives us the ability to love, to create, and to know God in a profound way. What you are saying is NOT fact, dear. EVERY fertilized egg IS a human being. What is it, a chicken that only later becomes a human being? A human being is created at the very moment of conception. This is medical fact and theological fact. Many artificial birth control methods actually kill the baby, rather than prevent pregnancy. Whether that happens are not artificial birth control is a moral evil that rapes the sanctify of life and of marriage.
