Question: Dear Brother, Should sins be outlawed in a state? If so, why and which particular sins? If not, why not? Jonas |

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM
Dear Jonas: All criminal laws are laws that outlaw sin. Murder, theft, assault, robbery, burglary, rape, kidnaping, etc. are all sins. Other sinful acts may not be criminalized but one can sue in court for remedy, such as libel and slander. There are all sort of "torts" that may be remedied in court that stem from a sinful act. At one time adultery and sodomy were illegal. They should be made illegal again. Adultery does violence against the sanctity of marriage which affects our entire society. Sodomy (that is, homosexual sex) also does violence against the sanctity of marriage and also negatively affects our entire society. The family is the bedrock upon which a civilization is built. It is also the glue that holds a society together. Anything that damages the family damages all of society. Thus, the old laws that protected the family ought to be restored. Because the issue has come up, which in itself is an affront, we need to pass a constitutional amendment protecting the definition o marriage as the union of one man and one woman. The whole notion of sodomite marriages is an abomination before God and a major assault upon our society. Those who support sodomite marriages will be held accountable before God. Here on earth, reprobates such as Brad Pitt who recently donated $100,000 to support sodomite marriage will be inducted into our Hall of Shame soon -- a feature in our Chronicles of Catholic Commentary. God Bless,
