Abortion Consequences Carol Monday, September 8, 2008

Question:

This might be a bit of a strange question, but what are some possible consequences we might face here in the U.S. if we end up electing politicians who vow to ensure that abortion will always remain a protected freedom? Might we be more at risk for God's judgment in the form of disasters, natural or otherwise such as economic collapse? Sometimes I wonder if God will say He has had enough and "lower the boom". Thank you!

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM

Dear Carol:

The direct consequences of electing a pro-abortion politician is that more legislation may be passed to more deeply entrench the killing of babies. The corollary to the abortion mentality is a culture of death of perverted sexuality, divorce, marital discord, etc.

The primary consequences are those consequences that come naturally to us when we personally, or collectively as a nation, ignore God. God does not have to judge us with disasters. The judgment we bring upon ourselves is of our own doing.

St. Paul mentioned this principle in talking about sodomites:

Rom 1:26 For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural,

Rom 1:27 and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.

The very life-style of homosexuals brings upon them disease of body and mind. God does not have to do a thing, they do it to themselves.

This principle applies to all sin. We all suffer the natural consequences of our sin.

Natural disasters are natural disasters, not something God perpetrates to zap us. Sometimes those disasters are a result of man's actions (such as a whole town getting cancer because of illegal toxic waster dumping), sometimes they are just the natural course of things (such as Hurricane Katrina and Ike). God, of course, can use these natural disasters as teaching tools to bring people back to Him, but He does not cause them.

As mentioned above Abortion has many direct and far reaching ancillary consequences. We are paying for them in our society now.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
