Mass cards for deceased | Lynne | Monday, August 11, 2008 |
Question: I would like to purchase, online, Mass cards. I am looking for the folder type cards that have a religious image on one side and a certificate on the other that has the deceased's name printed. I have found two websites, but I am concerned about their loyalty to the Church. There are so many dissident religious groups it is hard to know who to trust. The groups that I found on the internet are: 1) The Society of the Divine Word Mission Mass League and 2) Society of Divine Vocations Vocationist Mass Cards. The Vocationist website has YouTube videos that show the pictures used to make the Mass cards, but they also have a YouTube video that was made by excatholicforchrist.com which is a born again organization. The video tells Catholics to stop sending Mass cards, renounce Catholicism and to become 'born again in Christ'. I notified the Vocationist webmaster of the YouTube video hoping that it was put on the website accidentally. The Vocationist site also fails to tell what prayers and Masses the enrolled person is entitled to. Are either of these Religious Orders 'safe' to buy Mass card folders from? If not, do you have any idea where I can find what I am looking for? Thank you Lynne |

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM
Dear Lynne: Both of these communities, as far as I know, remain faithful to the Pope. The Society of the Divine Word as its seminary in the Archdiocese where I am. I have not heard anything negative. I can find no reference of excatholicsforchrist.com on any Vocationist video. Remember, the "related videos" section is something that YouTube does. It is an automatic reference based upon key words and topics. The Vocationist have no control over what is in the section. The key words "Mass Cards" is what would have tagged the excatholicsforchrist reference. Again, the Vocationist have no control over this. It is a YouTube thing. As for how many Masses and such that comes with the Mass Cards I too did not find any reference as to whether or not these are Perpetual or limited to one or more Masses. The best thing to do there is to ask before you purchase any Mass Cards from them. God Bless,
