Question Title Posted By Question Date
re: conditions for absolution in case of theft Bill Sunday, August 10, 2008

Question:

A comment regarding this--the Seal of the Confessional does not permit a priest to require the person to expose his sin. So he can advise that he turn himself in, but cannot make absolution contingent on doing so.

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM

Dear Bill:

I believe the Seal of the Confessional prohibits the priest from exposing a person's sin. He can require a person to make restitution or to turn-himself in as far as I know.

But, I will check on it.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
