forgotten mortal sin | Becca | Tuesday, July 22, 2008 |
Question: Dear Brother Ignatius, A few months ago I made a general confession going over a large part of my life. Now I can remember a few mortal sins that I forgot to mention and when I went to confession again, the priest told me not to worry about it because it was forgiven.. I wanted to confess all of the forgotten things because I heard somewhere that you're supposed to.. but he told me not to confess them, probably because I'm so scrupulous.. My question is, should I go to a different parish for confession? I really want to trust this priest's guidance, but I also want to make sure I'm following the Catholic teaching about this. |

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM
Dear Becca: Sorry for the delay in responding. I have been out of town. Any sins that you genuinely forgot are forgiven when the Priest gave you absolution. If your confessor told you to not worry about it and let it go, then you should follow his advice -- the sins are already forgiven. You are fine. Praise God for His mercy and love. God Bless,
