St. malachy and predictions | claire | Sunday, July 20, 2008 |
Question: Hello and God bless, I have read up on the supposed predictions of St. Malachy regarding the list of Popes and although it is thought that perhaps it was/is a hoax, it can still perhaps be true? I was also told by someone, and I quote: "Heard from a Catholic friend many years ago that there were only so many tombs reserved for the Popes. If he (St. Malachy) and his count is correct the current Pope will be the last one interned before the RCC is destroyed." Is this true? Are there "reserved" number of tombs for our Popes and if so is it because of the St. Malachy predictions? many thanks, Claire |

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM
Dear Claire: Since these prophecies are considered hoaxes it is best not to entertain them. In considering any alleged prophecy we must remember a few things: 1) private revelations should not be entertained unless officially approved by the Holy See 2) private revelations, when approved, may aid in our faith but are NEVER required for our salvation and does not have to be believed by the faithful 3) prophecies about the end times that set dates or set ranges are always false. Jesus said that NO ONE knows the date of the end. 4) Any prophecy that says the Church will be destroyed is false because Jesus said that the gates of hell shall NEVER prevail against the Church. The Church is the Bride of Christ. The Bride of Christ can never be destroyed. The idea that there are a reserved number of tombs for popes at the Vatican is ridiculous. NO ONE, not even the Pope knows when the end of the world will be. That being the fact, how could the Vatican prepare for only a certain number of Popes. The Popes will exist as long as the Church exist and the Church will exist until the end of time. If there are only a few tombs readily available and prepared at this moment, more will be prepared when the are needed. They CANNOT know how many more popes there will be since NO ONE knows when the end will come. Bottomline: all this talk about the Church being destroyed is fraudulent. All the talk about Pope Benedict being the last pope is also a hoax. We will have popes until the second coming. So unless Jesus returns in the next few years, there will be popes after Pope Benedict. God Bless,
God Bless,
