Question: Hi Brother - I've found I've been drinking a lot lately, which has caused me to wonder if I'm an alcoholic? I typically consume 3-8 beers in a sitting (I'm around 200lbs in weight), but it fails to have much of an effect on me. I've tried to "cold turkey" drinking and have been unable to. I don't FEEL like an alcoholic, but then I'm not really sure what one is anyways. Do you have any helpful advice or websites I could visit to get some help on the matter? I feel a bit guilty as I have been hiding how much I'm drinking from my wife (I think she knows somewhat, but chooses to say nothing) and am about to have my first child. Thanks |

Dear Jeremy: There is not much I can tell you. I am not a Alcohol Addition counselor. From the little I know, not being able to stop drinking, and hiding your drinking habits are two clues that one may be an alcoholic. You might consider contacting your local Catholic Charities for an appointment with one of their counselors. There is a Catholic organization that specializes on this problem. Perhaps you can find what you need from them. It is called the National Catholic Council on Alcoholism. We will be in prayer for you.
