Question: Dear brother please help me in this sad situation but first of all tell me whether this situation is the will of God for me or a temptation . I love saint Gabriel Possenti very much BUT every time I read the life of this saint I feel that I love him more than our Lord and desire to be his bride rather than the bride of Christ!! So I left him (because of fear of offending Jesus) and developed a devotion to St.Joseph but again I saw that I want to eliminate child Jesus in my meditation and focus only on Saint Joseph. Dear brother you see my dreadful condition please donot hate me I do not want to be like heretics who have no love for saints. I cannot think of a saint without loving him more than Jesus. There is another possibilty that perhaps because our Lord is jealous he wants me to only think of him But it is presumption because he was not so jealous over saints of OT they loved their multiple wives children and herds and yet thay were holier than us. So it is absurd for me to think that our lord wants my whole heart(and that detached from every thing even saints) while did not want whole heart of David who is greater than me. Now what shall I do ?shall I abandon devotion to saints ?is there any danger of heresy ?THANK YOU
Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM Dear Catherine: Jesus does want your whole heart, but we also share that heart with our loved ones, our neighbors, and with the saints. Jesus said love thy Lord thy God with ALL your heart, soul, body; AND love your neighbor as yourself. In what you are describing you are loving the Saints more than Jesus and wanting to be the bride of the saints rather then the bride of Jesus. This is disordered and improper. You need to talk with your confessor about this, and perhaps even see a good Catholic counselor to discover why you are doing this. It may be a form of obsessive personality traits.
