Aperi...Sacrosanctae and the Marian Antiphons joseph Saturday, June 28, 2008

Question:

Brother Ignatius,

Can i pray the Latin form of the Prayer before the Office instead of the english one before i pray the Divine Office? and also, can i also pray the sacrosanctae after the Office?

at the night prayer, where a Marian Antiphon is prayed, is it permissible to pray until the "Let us Pray" part like in the Old Liturgy?

thank you in advance

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM

Dear Joseph:

You can pray the Latin versions of any of the prayers, or the whole Office in Latin, if you wish.

As for the Aperi Domine and Sacrosanctae Trinitate prayers since they are before and after the Office itself you can pray them without problem. We can add anything before or after the Office itself.

As for the Marian Antiphon at Compline I am not sure what you are referring to. I do not see any "Let us Pray" associated with the Marian Antiphon. The Gospel Canticle is followed by the final prayer, followed by the concluding prayer of "May the all-powerful Lord...", followed directly by the Marian Antiphon.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
