Re : Attracted to a priest Mary Tuesday, June 24, 2008

Question:

Dear Brother,
I would just like to add that I’m an 18-year-old girl, with parents who don’t love me, with fears that my father is trying to seduce me, with a mother who is always degrading me. I have little love in my life. I have been sexually abused. I have liked many boys but I’ve never had any boyfriends because my parents are against it.

Likewise, I would not do anything wrong to this priest. I am just a young girl who thinks he looks good and why I thought of him when I feel romantic is because your Charismatic Catholic priests told me it can be anyone that I see in my sleep or fantasize about.

And also I attended a Charismatic Catholic retreat, and just then I fell sick and lost my faith in the Church and Jesus, and the priests blame me even though I never read anything anti-Catholic.

Also whenever I repent of my sin and feel I have come out of it just that day the priest tells me come out of it slowly so I’m stuck in my sins.

Don’t blame me, blame your Catholic priests. I have no interest liking this priest, I only think of him as a priest, the devil is after me giving visions of him, and the priests told me it’s ok to think about anyone, and the priest has tried to seduce me quite a few times.

Thankfully I have the grace to walk away, and if God is on my side, what you say to blame it on me is very hurtful. I am not so immoral. I am sorry, I am not blaming you, I just want you to know I want to live a holy life without this priest spoiling it, and I don’t want to be immoral. Probably you replied that way because you didn't know that this priest tried to seduce me and the devil is giving me visions. Can you say anything to help me? I'm sorry I didn't mean to be rude.

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM

Dear Mary:

I am sorry to hear about your experiences of abuse. These priests, however, are not telling you accurate information.

It is not proper to have sexual fantasies about anyone. We need to avoid such thoughts. If we have such thoughts against our will then maybe seeing a psychologist is in order, and prayers, and in some cases maybe even a deliverance counselor. But, one should not indulge in sexual fantasies.

As far as dreams are concerned we cannot help what we dream. There is no sin in dreams.

My dear, I did not blame you for anything. I answered your question as you posted it. I did not assume you were molested or anything like that.

If you are having improper thoughts about this priest, regardless of whether or not you would do anything, and regardless of the source of the thoughts, you need to remove yourself from his presence. If that means going to another parish, then so be it.

If these thoughts are coming from the devil, then you need to see a deliverance counselor to undergo deliverance to be freed from this. In the meantime it is best to probably go to another parish.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
