good or bad to look at | Catherine | Sunday, June 22, 2008 |
Question: hello and God bless you .sometimes ago I visited a traditionalist site which said that some images of our Lord are impure because he is depicted as a nude man in them .But I think that if Jesus is ALL HOLY he is always equally holy whether covered or naked and so are his images .What is mind of the church in that regard? (notice the images in sistine chapel) |

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM
Dear Catherine: I presume the painting in question are works of art and not some blasphemous depiction as has been done in recent years. When Jesus was crucified the Bible tells us that he was stripped naked. An artistic depiction of Jesus as nude on the cross would be accurate. One note: the depictions in the Sistine Chapel have a lot of nudity. At one point that nudity was covered. In recent renovations of the paintings they restore them to their original state. The "traditionalists" have a lot of problems. It is best to stay off their websites. God Bless, Footer Notes: This forum is for general questions on the faith.
