was I forgiven? Katie Saturday, June 21, 2008

Question:

Dear Brother,

If you go to confession and right after leaving can't completely remember the penance, but complete it to the best of your ability, does God forgive you? This happened to me today: I had to say 3 our fathers, 3 hail mary's, and 3 glory be to the fathers.

The part I couldn't completely remember was something like thinking about God's mecy, but my memory slipped. Was I forgiven? Is my thinking scrupulous considering how great God's mercy is?

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM

Dear Katie:

You are okay. I have done this myself. What I have done when I can't remember is to do what I think the penance may be and a little extra. Like 5 Hail Marys and 5 Our Fathers for the intentions of the parish and also reflect upon God's mercy upon me.

You are forgiven as far as I know, but you can always ask your confessor.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
