Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM
Dear Farnaz: When Jesus slept on the ground and allowed many people top touch him is was his choice. Where we place the Eucharist which has His Real Presence is our choice. Since the Eucharist is sacred, it is to be kept in a sacred vessel out of respect for God and His sacred presence. We see this respect in the treatment of the Ark of the Covenant in the Old Testament. The Ark was a sacred vessel containing sacred objects and also the presence of God. It was to be treated with respect and touched only by consecrated hands. When a soldier put his hands on the Ark to keep it from falling into the mud he died instantly because his hands were not consecrated. That is how important it is to respect the sacred vessels of God. The Eucharist is the Real Presence of Christ, of God. How dare we treat the Eucharist in an ordinary way or improper way. This is the God of the universe. We need to extend every possible respect and honor to God that we can. Never ought we to treat God mundanely. God Bless,
