SAINTS IN THE OLD TESTAMENT | Terry | Wednesday, May 28, 2008 |
Question: Are there any saints in the Old Testament. If so ... who was the first? And were these saints also in Limbo waiting to be released by Jesus our Savior? |

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM
Dear Terry: There are many saints in the Old Testament: Adam and Eve, Abel, Noah, Abraham, Elijah, Enoch, Daniel, Samuel, David, Moses, etc. All of the saints from the Old Testament remained in "Abraham's Bosom" (what some people call limbo) until Jesus came for them and brought them into heaven after his crucifixion. There are some exceptions, however. The Scriptures indicate that Elijah (2 Kings 2:11) and Enoch (Gen 5:24; Heb 11:5) were assumed into heaven. Moses also must have been assumed into heaven since he appeared with Christ and Elijah during the Transfiguration (Matt 17:3) even though we are told Moses was buried (Deut 34:6) and St. Michael fought Satan over his body (Jude 9). But most Old Testament saints remained in Abraham's Bosom until Christ set them free. The first saint was Adam. His feast day, a Memorial, is December 24th.
